Llama Momma Company and GloryHouse: The Luxury Hospital Bag and Birth Care Team Families Trust

Llama Momma Company and GloryHouse: The Luxury Hospital Bag and Birth Care Team Families Trust

When a friend tells me she's expecting, the questions start right after the congratulations. What do I actually need to bring to the hospital? Who should I hire? How do I find a doula I can trust in my house at 3 a.m.?

I started Llama Momma Company in Atlanta in 2019 to answer the first question, and GloryHouse to answer the rest. Llama Momma makes pre-packed luxury hospital bags in vegan leather, packed by hand  with things you will actually need.  GloryHouse, our sister company, connects families with doulas, lactation consultants and sleep specialists who have been background checked and personally interviewed, with their references followed up. More than 2,900 families in all 50 states have carried our bags out of the hospital.

Luxury isn't just about material items. It's about an experience. During your most vulnerable time you should have your needs met, your voice heard, and quality items to support where you are. You deserve that. There used to be a time where pregnant women were held in high-esteem. People would give up their seat. Carry things to your car for you, ensure you had what you need because of the weight of what you're carrying. That weight has now been placed on expecting mothers to carry on their own. I want to bring back the honor that pregnant have always carried but slowly diminished over time, and remind them of the magnitude of their sacrifice.

I'll tell you why I think it's the best hospital bag you can buy, what's behind it, and why families trust us with the parts of birth that matter most. I'd rather you hear it from me than from an ad.

Why I think it's the best luxury hospital bag you can buy

Most hospital bags are an empty tote and a checklist. You spend your third trimester ordering nipple butter at midnight, then dig through it all while you're having contractions.

Ours comes packed. The Weekender is vegan leather with MAMA pressed right into the front, and inside, everything is placed in the order you'll need it. Then the hospital part ends and it just becomes your bag, for weekends away and diaper duty and everything after.

How it's packed

  1. When you arrive: a folio with your ID, insurance card and birth plan, right on top.
  2. Your first shower: shampoo, conditioner, body wash and deodorant, so you feel like yourself again.
  3. After the baby comes: a postpartum recovery bundle, nipple shields and balm, where you can grab them with one hand.
  4. Going home: baby's first outfit, tucked in the BABY Pouch so it's easy to find on that last morning.

See every item and ingredient on our What's Inside page.

Pick how you want it

Option What's in it Price
The Weekender Just the bag, with its numbered tag and dust bag $299
Essentials The bag, packed for labor and recovery $525
Signature Essentials, plus the MAMA Clutch, BABY Pouch and a newborn set $1,069
The Colorway Set Weekender, Clutch and Pouch matched in one color $425

It comes in cognac or black, with gold hardware. The lettering is embossed, not printed, so it won't peel the first time it rains.

One for dad, too

Partners tend to show up to the hospital with a phone and good intentions. So we made the DAD Backpack ($225 on its own, $325 packed), open for pre-order now through November 21 and shipping in January. It's packed with what he needs to take care of you for a long night, and a few things to take care of himself. Afterward it's his diaper bag, and eventually his work bag.

And if you want the whole thing handled

Some of my clients don't want to plan a birth on top of everything else they're running. That's what our Maternal Concierge is for. (I made up the name, so I wrote a whole post on what a Maternal Concierge is.) We write your birth binder, put together a house manual for whoever's helping at home, go through your benefits, and bring you three vetted doulas to choose from. Suites start at $3,000, and it's all in place before the baby comes.

Is Llama Momma proven, or just pretty?

Fair question. We've been doing this since 2019, before "pre-packed hospital bag" was something people searched for. Since then, more than 2,900 families have left the hospital with one of our bags, in every state, and we've been featured in BuzzFeed and British Vogue along the way.

Mothers paid for it before it existed

I didn't start with investors. I started with a pre-order. Moms paid for bags that hadn't been made yet, because they wanted them that much, and that's what funded our first production run. I still think that's the best proof an idea can get.

The original

We launched Llama Momma in 2019, and other llama-named baby brands came along after. We're independent and not connected to any of them. If you're looking for us, it's Llama Momma Company, at llamamamacompany.com.

Back, and better

Drop 01 brings back the original MAMA Weekender with a refreshed design, plus the new DAD Backpack and our Maternal Concierge. The Weekender, MAMA Clutch and BABY Pouch are each made in a numbered edition of 100: 50 in cognac and 50 in black. When they're gone, they're gone.

Can you trust the people Llama Momma and GloryHouse bring into your home?

This is the part I take most seriously. A doula or a postpartum nurse isn't a delivery driver. She's in your bedroom, with your baby, when you're at your most vulnerable. So nobody gets introduced to a family until we've checked them out properly.

How we check every provider

  • Background checks. Every doula, lactation consultant and sleep specialist in GloryHouse is background checked before we'll introduce them to anyone.
  • References we actually call. We don't just collect names. We investigate the referrals each provider gives us, and we talk to the families they've worked with.
  • I meet them myself. I interview every provider personally. If I wouldn't want her with my own family, she isn't on the list.
  • You still choose. Concierge clients get three vetted options for each role, because fit matters and the decision should be yours.

If the worst happens, we refund everything

If a pregnancy ends in miscarriage or stillbirth, we refund your concierge suite in full. It doesn't matter how far along we are or how much we've already done, and you don't send anything back. A sister or a friend can email us for you. You won't have to explain yourself to anyone. It's written into our terms, so it's a promise, not a favor.

Everything's in writing

  • Returns: 10 days on unused bags.
  • Privacy: we never sell your concierge or health information, and we honor California's privacy rights and browser privacy signals.
  • Texts: you only get what you signed up for, and replying STOP ends them.

Privacy, for families who need it

Some of our families have a public life. The Private Suite adds privacy planning for the hospital and your home, and everyone on your care team signs a confidentiality agreement or we can use one you already have. For everyone else, our Visitor & Privacy Kit is a gracious way to say "no photos, please" without having to say it yourself.

What we're not

We plan, coordinate and connect. We're not doctors or nurses, and we'll never pretend to be. Your medical care stays with your OB, midwife and pediatrician.

Who's behind Llama Momma?

Me. I'm Adiyah Bell, and I live in Atlanta. Llama Momma isn't a faceless brand with a stock-photo founder. If something isn't right with your bag or your doula, I'm the person you'll hear from.

My day job is reading the fine print

Outside of Llama Momma, I'm a senior benefits analyst. I work with Fortune 100 companies on benefits programs with billion-dollar budgets. I spend my days on how health plans actually work: what's covered, what isn't, and where the money goes.

That's why every concierge suite includes a benefits review. A lot of families don't find out what their plan covers for birth, postpartum care, lactation support or a doula until the bills arrive. I'd rather you know before. It's the same work I do at the corporate level, done for one family at a time.

Families who could buy anything

Our clients have included the wives of professional athletes and well-known public figures, people who could carry any bag they wanted and chose ours. Llama Momma has always cost more than the alternatives, and that's on purpose. I'd rather make the best hospital bag than the cheapest one.

As seen in BuzzFeed and British Vogue

Llama Momma has been featured in BuzzFeed and British Vogue. I still get a little giddy about that one. It's nice when people who see every product out there decide yours is worth writing about.

Made in small numbers

Every style is made in a numbered edition of 100, with a numbered tag and a dust bag. The Weekender, Clutch and Pouch come 50 in cognac and 50 in black. You're not getting something mass-produced. You're getting one of a hundred.

What is GloryHouse?

GloryHouse is Llama Momma's sister company. It's our network of background-checked doulas, lactation consultants and sleep specialists. Llama Momma gets you ready for the birth. GloryHouse brings in the people who'll help you through it and the weeks after.

People mispronounce the name all the time, and I'm keeping it anyway. It comes from the idea that a mother is a house for glory: everything good in a person, carried and grown inside her.

Why it isn't just a doula directory

You can find a doula near you on any directory. What you can't easily find is someone who's already done the homework.

  • Every provider is background checked, and we investigate their referrals before they meet a single family.
  • I interview them personally. No one gets in just by filling out a form.
  • We match you. Families get about three options for each role, picked for their due date, city and what they care about.
  • Distance isn't a problem. With virtual visits, you can work with the right lactation consultant even if she lives in another state.
  • We take care of providers, too. GloryHouse is built to send good doulas steady work, so the great ones can afford to stay in this field.

Who you'll meet

Provider What they do for you
Birth doula Stays with you through labor, for comfort, support and someone in your corner
Postpartum doula Helps at home after the baby comes, so you can rest, feed and heal
IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) A board-certified expert in breastfeeding and lactation
Sleep specialist Helps your family settle into healthy newborn sleep

How to get started

GloryHouse introductions come with our Arrival and Homecoming concierge suites, and every Llama Momma bag opens the door to the network. If you're not ready for a suite, you can request an introduction and we'll talk it through.

Questions my friends ask me

What's the best luxury hospital bag?

I'm biased, but I'd say ours. The Llama Momma Weekender is vegan leather and comes on its own for $299 or pre-packed for labor and recovery from $525. Everything is in the order you'll need it, and it's made in a numbered edition of 100: 50 in cognac and 50 in black. After the hospital, it's simply a beautiful bag.

What should I pack in my hospital bag?

Your ID, insurance card and birth plan; postpartum recovery care; toiletries for your first shower; something comfortable to wear home; and a going-home outfit for the baby. Our Essentials bag covers the paperwork, recovery care and first shower, and the Signature adds the going-home pieces. Everything inside is listed on our What's Inside page.

When should I pack my hospital bag?

At the beginning of your third trimester, because babies don't read calendars. If you're ordering from us, order as your third trimester begins so it arrives with plenty of time.

What should my husband pack?

A change of clothes, a phone charger and power bank, snacks, water, toiletries and a copy of the birth plan. Or get him the DAD Backpack, which comes packed and turns into his diaper bag afterward. Pre-orders are open now through November 21, and backpacks ship in January.

What's a good push present or baby shower gift?

The Signature Weekender ($1,069) is the one I'd give: a packed hospital bag plus the MAMA Clutch, the BABY Pouch and a newborn set. For something smaller, the Clutch ($95) or the Pouch ($75). Everything can go on a Babylist registry.

What does a maternity concierge do, and what does it cost?

It starts with a brain dump before the baby gets here. You tell us everything on your mind, and we make sure you have not only the support you need, but the support you want, without having to ask for it later. Then we handle the planning: your birth binder, a house manual, a benefits review and three vetted doulas to choose from. Our Arrival suite is $3,000 and Homecoming is $6,500.

How do I find a doula I can trust, in Atlanta or anywhere?

Through GloryHouse. Every doula is background checked, her referrals are investigated, and I interview her myself before we introduce you to about three options. With virtual support, you don't have to live in Atlanta.

Are you the same as the other llama baby brand?

No. Llama Momma Company is my independent company, founded in Atlanta in 2019. We're not connected to any other llama-named brand. You'll find us at llamamamacompany.com.

If you're expecting, congratulations. I hope this helps you feel a little more ready. And if you have a question I didn't answer, email me at adiyahbell@llamamamacompany.com. I read them myself.
