What Is a Maternal Concierge? What It Means and Why I Created It

A maternal concierge gives expecting mothers the kind of personal, hands-on help a great concierge gives a hotel guest: information, arrangements and practical support, all built around her. At Llama Momma, our Maternal Concierge prepares everything around your birth before the baby comes, from your birth binder and benefits review to three vetted doulas for you to choose from. Suites start at $3,000.
If you've found your way here, you've probably seen the words "Maternal Concierge" on our site and wondered what exactly I mean. That's fair. I made the term up. So let me explain it the way I would if we were sitting across from each other over coffee.
A concierge is someone whose whole job is to take care of you. At a good hotel, she's the one who knows which restaurant will hold a table, has the car waiting at 6 a.m., and remembers how you take your coffee. In a residential building, she signs for your packages and knows the plumber's number by heart. A concierge gives you personalized service, information, reservations and practical help, so you don't have to figure everything out on your own.
A maternal concierge does that for mothers.
One day, I want our concierge services to support mothers in every season of motherhood, and we're building toward that. Right now, though, we hyperfocus on pregnant moms, because in my years doing this work, I've seen that pregnancy is the season with the highest need and the lowest support.
Think about what we ask of a pregnant woman. She's growing a whole person while still working, still running her home, still answering everyone's texts. And somewhere around the second trimester, she's suddenly expected to become an expert in hospital policies, insurance coverage, doulas, lactation, childcare and the delicate politics of who gets to hold the baby first. Everyone asks how she's feeling. Very few people ask what they can take off her plate.
That's a gap our Maternal Concierge exists to bridge.
We start every client with a brain dump. Nothing is too small. Then my team and I turn all of it into a plan and build it out around you.
We put together your birth binder, one place that holds your preferences, where you're giving birth (a hospital, a birth center or at home), who is and isn't in the room, your rules for photos and social media, and who to call when it's time. We write a house manual for whoever is helping at home, so your mother or your nanny knows the schedule for your other children, your favorite takeout spots , what you like to order and what brand of toothpaste the household uses, without having to ask you.
We do a benefits review. This is the part people don't expect, and honestly, it's the part I'm proudest of. My day job is senior benefits analyst. I work on health plans for Fortune 100 companies, so I spend my days in the fine print. I've watched too many families find out what their plan covered for a doula, lactation support or postpartum care after the bills arrived. I'd much rather you know now.
And we bring you three vetted doulas to choose from, through GloryHouse, our sister company. Every one of them has been background checked and personally interviewed before she ever meets a family. You meet them, and you choose. Fit matters, and the decision should always be yours.
If you'd like more, our Homecoming suite also builds your postpartum care team and handles the childcare search. Our Private suite adds privacy planning for the hospital and your home, with confidentiality agreements for everyone on your team, for families who live a more public life.
Then we hand off. I'm not trying to move into your life. The goal is that by the time the baby comes, your plan is set, your people are in place and you get to simply be pregnant. If something comes up later, you still have me.
No. A birth doula is with you during labor. A postpartum doula or night nurse helps you at home after the baby comes. A Maternal Concierge comes before all of that. We don't replace your doula. We help you find the right one, and we make sure everyone around you is ready for her.
And just so it's said plainly: we're not doctors or nurses, and we never give medical advice. Your medical care stays with your OB, midwife and pediatrician.
Most of my clients are women who are used to handling everything. Running a company, a household or a very public life, and she simply doesn't have room to project-manage a birth on top of it. Some are first-time moms who don't know what they don't know yet, and want someone who's been through it a thousand times to walk beside them. Some have family far away. Some have family very close, with a lot of opinions.
And sometimes the person reaching out isn't the mom at all. It's a husband, a mother or a best friend who wants to give her something bigger than another baby gift: a plan, and the people to carry it out. If that's you, tell us it's a gift and we'll talk about the best way to bring her in.
We have three suites:
- Arrival, $3,000: your birth binder, house manual, benefits review and three vetted doulas to choose from. It also includes our Signature Weekender, packed and ready.
- Homecoming, $6,500: everything in Arrival, plus your postpartum care team and the childcare search.
- Private, from $12,000: everything in Homecoming, plus privacy planning and confidentiality agreements. By introduction only.
If you're not ready for a full suite, the Birth Plan Concierge Session is $395. The providers you choose, like your doula, are booked separately at their own rates.
One more thing I want you to know before you ever reach out. If a pregnancy ends in miscarriage or stillbirth, we refund your suite in full, no matter how far along we are, and you don't send anything back. Someone close to you can email us for you. You won't have to explain anything to anyone. And if we can't take on your due date, you'll get a full refund too.
Request an introduction. It's a short form that tells me your due date, where you're planning to give birth and what you're hoping for. I read every one, and you'll hear back from us personally. If you can, reach out in your second trimester. It gives us room to plan well and gives you time to meet your doulas before the third trimester gets busy.
Pregnancy was never meant to be carried alone. There used to be a time when the people around an expecting mother carried her: someone gave up a seat, someone carried the bags, someone made sure she had what she needed. Somewhere along the way, that weight shifted onto her shoulders. I created the Maternal Concierge to give some of it back, so the only thing she has to carry is her baby.
